In 2015, which was the year we started operating, was the same year that the United Nations gathered in New York to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This agenda is made up of 17 new sustainable development goals which will guide policy and funding for the next 15 years, beginning the historic pledge to end poverty EVERYWHERE PERMANENTLY.

At NextGen Farms we have chosen to focus on goal 2 out of the 17 sustainable development goals. We are driven strongly by sustainable development goal 2 which is #ZeroHunger. Goal 2 aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. Tragically one person in every four still goes hungry in Africa, surely this isn’t acceptable.

We have chosen to focus on 4 elements within goal 2. These elements are:

Sustainable Food Systems

Sustainability is at the heart of all our farming activities. Every decision we make from land preparation to land clearing and everything in between ensures that we do the least harm to the ecosystem.

Double small scale producer income and productivity

We will achieve this by sharing knowledge through our blog post and providing training to the next generation of farmers.

Feeding the hungry

While we focus on long term objectives of building a sustainable food system we realize that there are immediate needs that have to met. To meet the immediate need of hunger we support organisations that run feeding programs in and around Lagos state both financially and in kind.

Empowering the Next Generation

In 2016 we partnered with BDYEI to train 80 youths on Agribusiness. The most outstanding student received a full scholarship partly funded by NextGen Farms to study Agriculture at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. In 2018 we developed an Agribusiness vocational training program in collaboration with the International Women’s Society.
